Wrestlemania Backlash Predictions

My thoughts and predictions for tonght's WWE’s premium live event.

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar

Unless there is a plan to do a protracted program with Cody and Brock over the summer, there is no reason for Cody not to go over here. I’m sure it will be a brutal affair, showing Cody’s resilience, fortitude, and ability, as he starts the rebuilding process from his Wrestlemania loss.

Pick: Cody Rhodes

Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest (San Juan Street Fight)

Bad Bunny was very impressive in his Wrestlemania debut and subsequent appearance in the Royal Rumble. Like Logan Paul, but not reviled by fans, he leverages his charisma and genuine skill with high spots to put on a good show. Priest, who by all rights should massacre Bad Bunny, will undoubtedly put on a bump-fest to help put over his friend. I expect run-ins from the Judgment Day and LWO before it is all over and Bunny wins, Purero Rico wins, crowd goes home happy.

Pick: Bad Bunny

SmackDown Women's Championship - Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Zelina Vega

It is too soon to end Rhea’s run as champion, but I expect that Zelina is going to have a lot of close falls, to keep the crowd behind the hometown competitor, but there is just too much working against Zelina for her to come out on top.

Pick: Rhea Ripley

Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. The Bloodline (Usos & Solo Sikoa)

There are plenty of cracks in the Bloodline and another loss will add fuel to that fire. The storyline of their disintegration will take precedence over a meaningless win against Kevin, Sami, and Riddle. This gives the champions momentum and a bit more prestige as they head to Raw, and Riddle

Pick: Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Raw Women's Championship - Bianca Belair (c) vs. IYO SKY

This is the hardest for me to predict. I thought Bianca was going to lose the title at Wrestlemania, because she doesn’t need the title to boost her prestige or elevate her on the card. She is arguably the most popular female superstar and likely one of the biggest fan favorites in the company regardless of gender. IYO is a fantastic talent and is one of the key pieces to build the division around for the future. It makes sense for IYO to win here as it will drive a wedge between she and the other members of damage control, particularly Bayley.

Pick: IYO SKY New RAW Women’s Champion

United States Championship - Austin Theory (c) vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed

Both Bobby and Austin were drafted to Smackdown, and with Bronson being drafted to Raw, unless they are planning on having both the US and Intercontinental champions on one show, Bronson can’t win. I’m onboard with the obnoxious Austin Theory as champion for a while longer. He is a heat magnet and the title belt only gives further credence to his boasting and reputation. If they were reconstituting the Hurt Business, then I’d say there was a chance for Bobby to win, but everything lines up for Austin here.

Pick: Austin Theory

Seth Rollins vs. Omos

The build up for this match was virtually non-existent and doesn’t seem to have any natural heat. Rollins has to one of the odds on favorite to win the new Title, losing here to Omos would derail that momentum, while Omos taking a loss to Rollins doesn’t really hurt him in the long run.

Pick: Seth Rollins
